Volunteers

volunteers1Volunteers are the heart and soul of our ADOPTION OUTREACH program that saves the lives of hundreds of pets in our shelter every year.

The paid staff of the Animal Shelter is able to meet the physical needs of the pets in the shelter, but little time is available for individual attention to the pets and for adoption outreach work. The outreach work includes working as adoption guides at the shelter, assisting visitors with counseling and answering questions about the pets, and in off-site adoption work at places like Petsmart and taking our mobile adoption trailer out with pets for adoption to different locations around the town and county.

Without volunteers, the quality of life of pets in the animal shelter is much lower. They are seldom taken out for walks, bathed, or just socialized in general, without volunteers. Our volunteers provide most of this sort of care.

The Animal Shelter has need of help in too many ways to mention them all here. If you wish to give some of yourself to the homeless cats and dogs of your community, please contact us at (512) 930-3592. Jackie Carey is the Shelter’s Volunteer Coordinator.

Without volunteers hundreds more cats and dogs in the Animal Shelter will die. The paid staff only has so much time to devote to adoption work. The problem of pet overpopulation belongs to the community as a whole, not just to the people paid to work at the Animal Shelter.

With a tear of gratitude in my eye, I send out a heartfelt thank you to all who have in the past, do currently, or will in the future give something of themselves to the homeless pets of this community by working as a volunteer at the Georgetown Animal Shelter.
